Post from Real Results Personal trainer Nancy Dickinson

So my mom is in town and the constant head clashing and unnecessary lectures are flowing strong.  The only place where there is harmony is in the kitchen.  Here’s the healthy comfort food result:

Monster Spinach Pie.

This recipe has so many variations, you can add all different kinds of vegetables to make it hardier and healthier as it’s totally versatile. Here’s the most basic list of ingredients and procedure:
Ingredients
1 onion chopped
4 slices turkey bacon
3 garlic cloves (I use more)
bunch of sliced mushrooms
2 packages of frozen spinach
1.5 cup skim milk or better yet soy milk to be real results diet friendly
1 cup whole wheat flour
4 egg whites
Pepper and or your very favorite no sodium seasoning (Mrs Dash always has great stuff)
Make sure spinach is thawed and water is drained from it.
Sautee turkey bacon, onions, garlic, and mushrooms (mushrooms in last due to water released from them)
Mix in spinach
whisk soy milk, flour, eggs, and seasonings
put spinach mix into 12′ pie plate or something close
pour soy milk mixture over top (you can also sprinkle shredded soy cheese on top of that to help bind pie mix and add more calcium)
bake at 375 for 40 min then let it set a while after (should see a nice browning around the edges)
enjoy your monster spinach pie
Super Stud Chicken Cacciatore
This chicken recipe is so light, healthy, delicious, and EASY. And god knows at this point in our smart eating careers…chicken can get boring. Again, this is versatile and you should add a lot more hardy green veggies (though consider the water released from veggies)
Ingredients:
6 to 8 boneless skinless chicken thighs (thighs are higher in fat than breasts but remember fat is not the enemy)
2 peppers different colors de-seeded and sliced
1 onion sliced or chopped
tons of garlic
olive oil
can of peeled tomatoes
organic chicken stock
fresh basil
fresh oregano
pepper
Put a little olive oil in pan and brown chicken
Take chicken out and sautee onions, garlic
In a big baking pan, lay in chicken and put onions, garlic, peppers on top
Add tomatoes (squeeze water from them), chicken stock, herbs and/or spice of your choice
Slow bake around 325 for as long as it takes the sauce to reduce by half (then you know it’s totally soaked up in there)
Serve over spaghetti squash, brown rice, or whole wheat orzo
enjoy your super stud chicken cacciatore

Hi all, below is information about Real Results Trainer Cyndee Platko.  She specializes in creating endurance athletes and prepping people for competitions.  Matter of fact, Real Results Trainers Denny Silva and Nancy Dickinson utilize her as their coach!

I charge $100.00 a month for online training for running, biking, swimming and triathlon clients.  Most of my marathlon or triathlon clients strength train with me once a week for one hour focusing on sport specific training.  The online training is done through www.trainingpeaks.com. Clients pay me $200.00 a month for both online and strength once a week.  If they need additional help in the pool they usually work with me in the pool 4 session for $160.00.  Those are hour long sessions with a max of two people at a time.Real Results Personal Trainer Cyndee Platko

I also do open water swims with clients when I have time and group bike rides that I don’t charge for. If people want me to run with them or bike with them one on one I do that as well and prices depend on how long we need to be out.

Some local things that I have recently recommended to clients are this weekends event put on by www.calicoracing.com. It is a 5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon, Full, and 50 mile run..

Another guy puts on some fun local splash and dash events http://www.lowerysmultisport.com/ . These are fun and for every level of athletes.

I know a guy who designed wetsuits and triathlon shoes for Zoot Sports and he has given me a coupon code for my clients to get discounts.  Their website is www.zootsports.com.

I also send people to Las Vegas Multisport (formerly swim bike run) on Hacienda and Rainbow and they give them 10% off.

I recommend clients to get supplements at The Vitamin Shoppe and they give me coupons to give to my clients.  Also I have done seminars there about supplementing and dieting and training. (remember I worked in the Vitamin Industry for about 17 years so I know a lot about what to take and not to take.  He is a good partner to have because he will let you do seminars anytime and put flyers and stuff up. The manager is a good friend of mine.

For bikes I send most people to Pro Cyclery on West Charleston. They take really good care of my clients.

Hello to all of my Real Results friends!!

It’s Nancy here, eager to propose a LITERALLY GROUNDBREAKING idea to everyone about a very important tool for our fitness…SHOES.
Recently I gave our new client Marnie L. a pair of my old running shoes as she works too much to ever get to didn’t have the opportunity to get over to James at the Athletes Foot.  Marine is very motivated, and is currently wearing what to me looked like a pair of Keds.
It got me thinking; perhaps we should have a shoe drive of some sort.
There are plenty of people like Marnie who need shoes badly but can’t spend the money for the best of the best fitting,
We ought to tell anyone clients, or whomever to donate their old, not totally trashed, shoes.  Someone will be more than happy to use them. This may not appeal to many, may seem gross, but obviously not out of the question for folks like Marnie.  I also feel it compliments a major Real Results appeal of affordable fitness.  Everyone deserves to be fit, everyone deserves to wear decent shoes and keep their bodies safe. I will be the shoe recipient of this project and promote it.
Those who have started a program with me have undoubtedly noticed how upon our initial meeting I will look down and take a discerning look at what’s on your feet.  And with good reason.  The type of shoes you wear during training can cause both positive and negative chain reactions in our muscles/joints/posture, from the ground up.  Good shoes are not a frivolous purchase!!!  They are a necessity…and I hate to admit as well…an expense.
Asics shoes

Asics shoes

Now I strongly feel that fitness should not be an expense.  SO!  I was inspired recently when I gave Marnie a pair of my old running shoes (still in good shape) to a client who  I thought to myself about the great amount of people who would be happy to have a used pair of GOOD shoes; and the large amount of people like myself who have a surplus (unhealthy fetish for running shoes and go through them like boyfriends).  Let’s do something with this good ratio and help some people out while cleaning out our closets. It may not be a perfect custom fit by our shoe man James, but it’s a great start.
We can start the project out with anyone interested in donating shoes by bringing the shoes to Central gym (Maryland and Karen) where I train.  Management is aware of the drop off so leave them in the main office in a bag with my name on it.  Now there are some credentials for the shoes (remember I’m very discerning).  Best brands are New Balance, Mizuno, Asics, Avia, Brooks, and Nike or Nike Bowerman Series though certainly not limited to those.  They also need to be in decent shape.  No holes or serious wear and tear and the outer body of the shoe cannot be hanging over frame (sole) of shoe.

If you have never worked out with her, you are missing out!  She is such a caring and thoughtful person and really makes such great efforts to go out of her way for her clients.  For those of you who don’t know, Nancy was a previous competitive swimmer and professional motocross rider.  Along with our other Real Results trainer Cyndee Platko, Nancy is one of the fittest women I have ever met (see the video in the last post.)  Nancy does have one other pride and joy aside from being a Real Results trainer and competitive athlete…and that is her wonderful baby boy Luke (aka, Lukifer.)

Lately however, she has been using her new toy, and she loves to use it all the time!

NOT that kind of toy…!

Beware…The Stick!

Those of you who train with me regularly, recently had a rude awakening regarding post workout care for your muscles: THE STICK.

Nancy showing off her prized possesion...The StickRemember that wicked little item I used to lovingly roll out the swollen tissue in your legs as you lied there in agony?  Let me fill you in a bit about what was happening with your poor, overworked yet undernourished legs.

The area I was working on is called your Iliotibial Band

(I.T.Band).  It’s a tract of thickening tissue over the muscle on your outer thighs.  It runs from the outside of your pelvis over the hip and inserts just above the knee.  An endless range of activities such as running, biking, running stairs, squatting, and basically any repeated lateral (forward) movement can stress the I.T. Band.  Regular participation in these activities without “regular rehabilitation” (i.e. The Stick, therapeutic massage, or the use of a foam roller) can result in sensitive and swollen outer thighs to outright severe knee or hip pain.

Every single one of you guys and girls work your butts off, literally. My workouts and cardio expectations of you are far from easy but rather very, very demanding.  It’s not rational to assume that your body can take on this wonderful stress and not have any repercussions. So, to all of you sick folks addicted to the workouts yet whom run a 5 minute mile pace away from THE STICK, foam roller, or stretch area, please keep this in mind:

MUSCULAR PERFORMANCE IS NOT IMPROVED SOLELY WITH YOUR WORKOUTS BUT IN CONJUNCTION WITH PROPER NUTRITION, AND….

STRETCHING, REST, AND REHAB (Stick, Therapeutic Massage, and use of a Foam Roller).

The Stick “How It Works”

As a matter of fact, during your workouts, your muscles are breaking down.  It’s your responsibility to nourish them back to their happy place post workout.  Using the rehab methods being mentioned, these tools will increase blood flow into the tissue and break up the “knots and kinks” in those particular areas.  Doing such will “nourish” your muscles and and connective tissue and thus aid in recovery, prevent injury, and most importantly, “prolong your workout life.”  So the big message here is…INJURY PREVENTION.

How to Stretch Your IT Band and Glutes

If anyone is unsure about how to use the foam roller or stick, please contact me via text message so we can set up a mini clinic…I promise I will try not to enjoy your pain too much.

It has finally arrived…

The new site for Real Results! Thanks for stopping by and I do hope that you make our site a regular spot to check. The old site was “static” as I have been told by my new web developer Denise Griffitts, which means there wasn’t a reason for people to come back after the first visit. With this new site however, that will definitely not be the case.

As you can see, the site has a big new component that I am typing to you from. A Blog! Blogging gives me a forum to communicate on a regular basis to you, the viewer. This new site is called a “WordPress” site. Word press is geared more towards content rather then glitz. Which for you the viewer, is a big advantage, because from a fitness, diet, and health perspective, you will be receiving tons on updates. Other then a regular number of “Posts” from me, there will be submissions from Jessica Wheeler or Ashley Godfrey, our massage therapists from Real Results Massage. There will be posts from some of our trainers like Nancy Dickinson or Linzie Sawyer. And we will have guest posts from clients, other trainers, and industry related business owners.

I will be adding pictures, videos, articles, recipes, helpful tips, and events to the blog and the site regularly. Make sure to check out the new pages, like Real Meals of which you can place an order online or the products page where you can purchase items of interest.

See above, where “Denise Griffitts” is highlighted?  Click on anything you wish if it’s highlighted and that will link directly to the site.  I will be adding links constantly to posts in the blog and or the web pages.

In other words, the site will no longer be static…It will be interactive.

I encourage feedback and comments on the site.  I look forward to hearing back from you…

There are a few kinks here and there to work out but all in all the site is ready!  Thanks to all the Real Results Clients new and old for your business and we look forward to many great times ahead!
